After obtaining your producer license, you must be appointed by at least one insurance company to sell their products. Carriers submit appointment requests to the Division of Insurance.

Colorado participates in NIPR and has reciprocity arrangements with most states. Non-resident producers with active home state licenses can obtain Colorado licenses without additional exams. Apply through NIPR.

Regulatory Board
Unique to Colorado: Colorado is one of few states that does not require fingerprinting or a formal background check for standard insurance producer licenses. The state also recently removed the lawful presence requirement for producer applications. Colorado requires a relatively high 50 hours of pre-licensing education per line compared to the national average of 20-40 hours.
