24 hours per biennial renewal for producers with multiple license types. 16 hours if you hold only one license type or hold both Life & Annuities and Health. 3 hours must be ethics, and 8 hours must be in your line of authority. Effective February 1, 2026, new limitations on non-certification self-study CE: no more than 12 CE hours may be completed in any consecutive 24-hour period.

Unique to Virginia: Virginia is one of the few states that does not require any pre-licensing education, making it relatively faster to get licensed. However, the exam requires passing both national and state sections separately at 70% each. Virginia also uses the term 'Agent' rather than 'Producer' for licensed professionals.
