Licensed social workers in Oregon are mandatory reporters of suspected child abuse, neglect, and elder abuse. Failure to report can result in disciplinary action and criminal penalties.
Social work scope of practice includes title protection, telehealth regulations, and mandatory reporting obligations. Clinical social workers (LCSWs) can independently diagnose and treat mental health conditions in most states.
Oregon uses the CSWA (Clinical Social Work Associate) designation as a mandatory pre-licensure step toward LCSW, requiring an approved supervision plan on file with the Board. Oregon also requires a state-specific Rules and Laws Exam (32 open-book questions) in addition to the ASWB Clinical exam. The RBSW is a registration rather than licensure. Oregon has not joined the Social Work Licensure Compact.
