Wyoming distinguishes between Barber (1,000 hours) and Barber-Stylist (1,250 hours) licenses, where the standard barber license does NOT include chemical services like hair coloring. This is similar to Virginia's barber/master barber distinction. Exams are only offered approximately twice per year in Casper, making scheduling important. Cosmetologists can cross over to barbering with a reduced 750-hour requirement. Wyoming has very few barber schools, so many students train out of state.
MULTI-TIER: Barber (1,000 hrs, no chemicals) / Barber Stylist (1,250 hrs, includes chemicals).
Different exam formats: Barber = NIC theory + board-administered practical in Cheyenne. Barber Stylist = NIC theory + NIC written-practical via Prov.
Annual renewal — $75/year.
HB 257 (2025) proposes creating apprenticeship pathway — verify if enacted.
Cosmetologist crossover: 750 hours barber training.
Total fees: $185.
