North Dakota licenses insurance producers by individual lines of authority. Available lines include Life and Annuity, Accident and Health, Property, Casualty, and Personal Lines. Effective September 12, 2025, North Dakota updated its Lines of Authority to align more closely with national standards. Major Lines license holders must renew biennially.

Unique to North Dakota: North Dakota is one of the more expensive states for initial licensing, with a $100 application fee, separate exams at $64 each, and a $70.25 fingerprint fee. The state uses PSI for both exam administration and fingerprinting. North Dakota updated its Lines of Authority in September 2025 to align with national standards and recently added Pharmacy Benefit Manager licensing.
