The NAPLEX is a computer-adaptive exam administered by NABP that assesses pharmacy knowledge and competency. Most states also require the MPJE (Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination) to test knowledge of federal and state pharmacy law. California uses its own exam (CPJE) instead of the MPJE.

Alaska is one of the few states that has eliminated the MPJE requirement entirely (effective May 2024). Transfer applicants must instead complete an Alaska Law Questionnaire with a perfect score (10/10). Alaska's vast geography means telepharmacy is critical for serving remote communities.
