Prerequisite Courses

Audiologists must earn a Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree from a program accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA). Programs typically take 4 years post-baccalaureate and include extensive clinical practicum hours.

Retake Policy

Praxis may be retaken after 28 days; no limit on number of attempts

The Praxis Examination in Audiology is administered by ETS and is required in most states. The exam covers audiologic assessment, intervention, and professional practice. A score of 162 is the typical passing threshold. Some states also require a separate state-specific exam.

Many states require postgraduate supervised clinical experience as part of the audiology licensing process. This typically involves working under the supervision of a licensed audiologist who holds the CCC-A credential. The Clinical Fellowship (CF) experience ensures competency in clinical audiology practice.

The Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) is issued by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Some states require the CCC-A for licensure or accept it in lieu of other requirements such as the supervised clinical experience or state exam.
