Continuing Education
State LTE license: 8 CEUs per 2-year renewal cycle. Failure to complete CEUs requires retaking the state licensing exam to renew. ISA Certified Arborist (if held separately): 30 CEUs per 3-year cycle.
The ISA Certified Arborist credential requires a minimum of 3 years full-time experience in arboriculture (degree substitutions available). The exam covers tree biology, diagnosis and treatment, pruning, safety, soil science, and urban forestry. A passing score of 76% or higher is required.

Advanced Certifications
ISA certification is the most widely recognized credential in the arboriculture industry. In Maryland, ISA certification is voluntary but strongly recommended and often required by municipalities for tree work permits.
