The Counseling Compact allows licensed professional counselors (LPCs) to practice in other member states through a compact privilege. This enables counselors to provide in-person and telehealth services across state lines without obtaining separate licenses.

How the Counseling Compact Works

Licensed professional counselors who meet the compact's uniform requirements can obtain a privilege to practice in any member state through the Compact Commission's system. The counselor maintains their home state license and obtains compact privileges for additional states. This covers both in-person practice and telehealth/telecounseling services.

Eligibility Requirements

•Hold an active, unencumbered LPC (or equivalent) license in a member state
•Hold a graduate degree in counseling or a closely related field from an accredited institution
•Have completed the required supervised clinical experience
•Have passed a nationally recognized counseling exam (e.g., NCE, NCMHCE)
•Have no disciplinary actions against any professional license
