To get a Maine real estate license in 2026, you must complete 55 hours of Maine Real Estate Commission-approved pre-licensing education, pass a background check, take and pass the PSI licensing exam, and find a sponsoring broker. Most applicants finish in 8–16 weeks and spend $355–$706 including course tuition.

Sales Agent: 2-year non-renewable license — must upgrade to Associate Broker within 2 years. Associate Broker/Broker: Biennial renewal from date of issuance.
First Renewal Notes
Sales Agent license holders must upgrade to Associate Broker before their 2-year license expires. No renewal pathway exists for the Sales Agent tier.
Effective April 1, 2025, mandatory core course is 'Reasonable Care and Diligence Core Course'. Courses from other states do not automatically count — must submit for individual approval. CE requirements apply only to Associate Broker and Broker licenses.
