The Occupational Therapy Licensure Compact (OT Compact) allows OTAs to practice across member states with a compact privilege. Non-compact states may accept out-of-state credentials through endorsement or require a full application.
Texas uniquely uses 'Licensed Occupational Therapy Assistant' (LOTA) as the credential title instead of COTA. A Jurisprudence Examination is required at both initial licensure and renewal. CE must include a mandatory HHSC-approved human trafficking course. The ECPTOTE transitioned to a new online licensing system on March 17, 2025. Military service members, veterans, and spouses may have application fees waived (HB 5629, effective September 1, 2025).
