Michigan uses a 3-year renewal cycle (unusual) and requires 1 hour of implicit bias training as part of CE requirements since June 2022. The application fee is $270.10. Licenses renew every 3 years (after first renewal); initial license valid 4–12 months depending on issuance date within the cycle. 18 hours of continuing education are required per renewal cycle. 625 hours of pre-licensing education are required. Neighboring states include Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin, each with their own massage therapist requirements.

18 CE hours per 3 years: 1 hour pain/symptom management, 2 hours ethics/boundaries, 1 hour implicit bias training.
625-hour requirement applies to those enrolled on or after August 1, 2017.
