Barbershops must be licensed as establishments and pass health and safety inspections.
Arizona statute specifically breaks down the 1,200-hour requirement into at least 250 hours of theory (fundamentals, hygiene, bacteriology, histology, chemistry) and 950 hours of practical instruction (massage, haircutting, shaving, and chemical work).
CRITICAL: Training hours are 1,200 (250 theory + 950 practical), NOT 1,500. Updated per ARS §32-3292 via HB2168.
Barbers and cosmetologists are now under the SAME combined board (Barbering & Cosmetology Board) as of Jan 1, 2022 (HB2029).
Crossover: cosmetologist/hairstylist → barber requires 200-hour crossover course.
Infection Protection & Law Review class required for all reciprocity applicants.
Mobile barbering units allowed with Board registration.
