Mississippi is one of the few states with no state-level security guard licensing or registration requirement. This stands in contrast to all of its neighboring states: Alabama requires licensing through its Security Regulatory Board, Louisiana mandates registration through the State Board of Private Security Examiners, Tennessee requires unarmed guard registration, and Arkansas requires licensing for armed guards. Security professionals working in Mississippi who wish to demonstrate competence can pursue voluntary ASIS International certifications such as the Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or Physical Security Professional (PSP).

Mississippi does not license or register security guards at the state level. All regulation is handled at the local municipality or county level. Check with local law enforcement or business licensing offices for any applicable requirements.

Armed security guards must comply with Mississippi firearms laws. The state's constitutional carry law allows concealed carry without a permit, but many employers require an enhanced concealed carry permit for armed positions.
