Louisiana has a dual licensing system (SPBLA for individuals, LSLBC for contractors) and a unique Tradesman/Residential Plumber tier. As of 2024, journeymen who worked independently must pass the master exam within 5 years. Passing scores expire after 90 days.
DUAL LICENSING SYSTEM: SPBLA for individual plumber licenses; LSLBC (LA State Licensing Board for Contractors) for commercial contractor licenses (work >$10,000)
4 license types: Apprentice, Tradesman/Residential (repairs on existing 1-2 family), Journeyman (installation/repairs under master), Master (full scope)
Tradesman/Residential exam: 80-question written + 30-min practical; application/exam $135; exams May and November
Journeyman has two paths: Indentured (7,000 hrs) vs Unindentured (8,000 hrs)
