There is currently no national MFT compact, though efforts are underway in some jurisdictions.
Illinois allows up to half of required supervision hours to come from graduate training, which is more generous than most states. Illinois was among the first states to adopt the AAMFT Access MFTs model law.
Illinois passed Access MFTs model law in 2024 for enhanced license portability.
IDFPR administers licensing rather than a standalone MFT board.
Up to 100 of 200 required supervision hours can come from graduate training.
There is no interstate compact for LMFTs. The Counseling Compact covers LPCs only, not LMFTs.
