South Carolina accepts out-of-state electrician credentials
Technical exam waiver available for applicants holding a current license obtained by examination in an eligible state for 1+ year. NC has a specific reciprocity application for SC. Grandfathered licensees do not qualify. Business Management & Law exam still required.
These are the standard licensing steps in South Carolina. As a licensed electrician from North Carolina, you may already satisfy some of these requirements.
Accumulate minimum 1 year of experience under a licensed electrician or general contractor within the last 5 years
Gather W-2s and/or 1099s from supervising employer as experience documentation
Submit application to SC Residential Builders Commission
Schedule and pass two PSI exams: (1) Business Management & Law for Residential Contractors, and (2) Residential Electrical Technical Examination (60 questions, open-book, 3 hours, 73.3% passing)
Pay $220 initial license fee
Obtain $10,000 surety bond
Receive Licensed Residential Specialty Contractor - Electrical license
