Georgia accepts out-of-state electrician credentials
Georgia has reciprocity agreements with Alabama, Louisiana, North Carolina, and South Carolina for the Unrestricted (Class II) electrical contractor license.
These are the standard licensing steps in Georgia. As a licensed electrician from Florida, you may already satisfy some of these requirements.
Gain minimum 4 years (8,000 hours) of documented electrical field experience under a licensed contractor
Obtain three notarized references (at least one from a licensed electrical contractor for Class II)
Submit exam application to the Georgia Construction Industry Licensing Board ($30 application + $10 processing fee)
Schedule and pass the PSI contractor exam (open-book, computer-based, 8 hours total, two parts, 70% passing score)
Submit license application with proof of $10,000 surety bond and required insurance
Receive electrical contractor license (Class I Restricted or Class II Unrestricted)
Detailed fee breakdown not available.
Timeline varies based on your credentials, reciprocity eligibility, and Georgia's current processing times. Contact the state licensing board for current estimates.
