Michigan accepts out-of-state cna credentials
Create MILogin account, request MI-NATES access, submit new nurse aide application and pay $40 registration fee via MI-NATES; must hold active certification from an approved state
These are the standard licensing steps in Michigan. As a licensed cna from Ohio, you may already satisfy some of these requirements.
Complete a LARA-BCHS approved NATCEP CNA training program (minimum 75 hours: 59 classroom + 16 clinical)
Register for the competency exam through D&S Diversified Technologies (Headmaster) ($175)
Pass the knowledge exam (65 multiple-choice questions, 60 min, written or audio format)
Pass the skills evaluation (3-4 randomly assigned skills including hand hygiene and measurement)
Both components must be completed within 24 months of training; up to 3 attempts each
Create MILogin account and submit registration application through MI-NATES ($40 fee)
Upon registration, name is placed on the Michigan Nurse Aide Registry
May work as a temporary nurse aide for up to 4 months after training while awaiting exam results
Timeline varies based on your credentials, reciprocity eligibility, and Michigan's current processing times. Contact the state licensing board for current estimates.
