New Jersey accepts out-of-state cna credentials
Two routes available: Route 1 requires 24 hours of approved CEUs (12 Alzheimer's care + 12 other); Route 2 requires 35+ hours/week of CNA work in a nursing home in the last 24 months plus passing NJ skills and written/oral exams
These are the standard licensing steps in New Jersey. As a licensed cna from New York, you may already satisfy some of these requirements.
Complete a state-approved NATCEP training program (90 hours: 50 classroom + 40 clinical)
Schedule and pass the skills evaluation through D&S Diversified Technologies (Headmaster) at nj.tmutest.com
Schedule and pass the written or oral exam through PSI
Pass both the written test (60 questions, 75% to pass) and skills evaluation (5 tasks, 80% per skill)
Complete fingerprint-based Criminal Background Investigation (CBI) through IdentoGO
Be placed on the New Jersey Nurse Aide Registry
Timeline varies based on your credentials, reciprocity eligibility, and New Jersey's current processing times. Contact the state licensing board for current estimates.
